Vining plants, also known as climbers or creepers, are a versatile addition to any garden or indoor space. These plants grow long stems that can climb structures, trail along the ground, or become more compact and bushy with proper pruning. Whether indoors or out, vining plants use supports like trellises, moss poles, or even tree branches in their natural habitat to thrive, thanks to their unique growth mechanisms such as tendrils, aerial roots, or twining stems. Perfect for adding vertical interest, vining plants are typically easy to care for. They flourish with moderate to bright indirect light, need watering when the top layer of their well-draining soil dries out, and benefit from feeding during the growing season.

A single plant is stunning, but a collection of plants, indoors or in your garden, is just as beautiful. Yet, sometimes your space needs something extra, and that’s where cute plant accessories can enhance the area and the plants. The right accessories also highlight the joy and satisfaction of caring for plants.

When I collect, make, and introduce plant accessories, I ensure they add style and match my personality and space. Sometimes, I want something functional in the plantscape, but a gorgeous stained-glass plant stake for a cutesy aesthetic is reason enough, too.

If you’re on the hunt for inspiration, I’ve compiled the best and cutest plant accessories that make life worth living.

Quick Accessory Picks for Plant Perfection

You can choose pricey, affordable, or repurposed plant accessories for your garden and indoor spaces. These can be as classy, vintage, or weird as you want. There are no rules except that you should have fun!

If you’re in a rush, here are some of the best plant accessory picks from my list:

  • Support plants and help vining ones climb with bamboo trellises, like the Bee Keeper Trellis and Wild Flower Wall Trellis.
  • Repurpose old furniture and household items like trampoline frames to hang planters and wooden ladders as cool plant stands.
  • Use food and tea cans and tires to make cute pots and planters.
  • With leaf-shaped plant tags, the flora plant stake, and wood sticks, you can label plants with names and feel-good words.
  • Terrariums are great for creating an indoor plant world. You can use a glass teapot or aquarium, buy a vivarium or terrarium, and create a magical plantscape.
  • Buy or make botanical art. Glass-strained animals, plants, and cutesy objects are ideal for any plant.
  • DIY a water fountain to add calmness to your day.

Why I Chose These Cute Accessory Ideas for Plants

With so many fantastic plant accessories on the market, it can be a real challenge to know what you’re looking for and not just turn your plant into a pizza (with a bit of everything added).

So, I keep a few very specific guidelines in mind when shopping for (or considering) new cute plant accessories.

My guidelines are:

  • Appearance of the Accessory

Any accessory I consider needs to have that unique feature or appearance that makes it special. That feature can be reserved and magical or bright and “wow-y.” But it can’t be boring. Cute plant accessories are showstoppers.

  • Quality of the Materials

Whether an accessory is cute or functional, the materials must merit the price. If I’m spending money on it, I want to know that it will last, won’t harm my plant, and will continue looking good in a few years.

Bamboo, glass, ceramic, and steel are some of the best materials for plant accessories.

  • Suitability to My Plants’ Environment

My plants are part of my decor scheme, whether indoors or outdoors. What I place with them needs to fit into my decor and style. While I adore Pooh Bear, I don’t necessarily want to add a million Pooh Bear and friends accessories to my indoor succulent garden, seeing as the rest of my decor scheme is inspired by a French Provincial style.

  • Scale to the Intended Plant

My plants should look good with their accessories, not overwhelmed or like they swallowed some dainty little trinket. Scale is important.

An accessory like a terrarium needs to house plants, and they should fit appropriately. My plant tag or stake should be appropriate to suit the 8-foot delicious monster I have growing in my foyer, not disappear next to or into it.

  • Budget

While I would love to binge shop on plant accessories, I have a budget to maintain, so I won’t consider something that’s way out of my price range or doesn’t offer good value.

9+ Cute Plant Accessory Ideas

There are so many different types of cute plant accessories to choose from. Here are the best ideas:

1. Plant Trellis and Climbing Supports

A garden setting with various potted plants and wooden plant supports. The plants include a Chinese Money Plant, a Radiator Plant, and possibly others. The wooden supports are in different shapes, including a Celtic knot design, a geometric arch, and a tree-like structure. The background features blooming purple rhododendrons and lush greenery. The word "Thrive" is displayed on a wooden sign.

A plant trellis can be functional or decorative. Bamboo is a popular material for trellises as it’s water-resistant and natural in appearance. With cute designs like these by Floratrel, you can create any look you’d like and expand the trellis with their modular units as your plant grows.

Trellises support plants, train creepers and vining plants, and section off plants for some order in the greenery.

Two wooden plant support trellises in the shape of honeycomb structures. The trellises have a light brown color and are designed to be inserted into the soil. The word "Floratrel" is printed on both trellises.

Bees are essential to plants, so a Bee Keeper Trellis is a perfect accessory that adds geometric balance to any plant. The design lets large-leafed plants grow through the trellis without damaging the leaves.

Five wooden coasters with intricate floral designs. They are arranged on a white countertop with a small potted plant in the background. The coasters are made of light-colored wood with dark brown edges.

A trellis is extremely handy when training a vining plant, but why not bring some natural cuteness with these Wild Flower Wall Trellis packs? The bamboo trellis has a spacer and adjustable positioning tape, which lets you position each mini trellis optimally to train vining plants to grow in a specific direction or height.

A circular metal wall hanging with multiple small glass containers filled with water. Various plant cuttings, including a Philodendron, a Snake Plant, and a Tradescantia, are submerged in the water and are developing roots. The background is a white wall.

Even a trampoline frame can be repurposed into a unique outdoor trellis to train lush greenery and provide space for beautiful blooms. Repurposing is ideal, as the cute accessory becomes functional and unique.

2. Hanging Baskets

Don’t believe that hanging baskets are outdated—they’re in vogue!

Two repurposed tires are hanging from trees in a garden. One tire is painted green and filled with a trailing plant with purple leaves, possibly a Tradescantia zebrina. The other tire is painted pink and filled with colorful flowers, possibly ice plant or Delosperma cooperi.

Choose a stylish hanging basket, or make your own from recycled materials like bicycle tires and paint them brightly to match your decor scheme.

Four hanging planters made from painted tin cans are attached to a wooden fence. The planters contain colorful flowering plants, likely petunias or surfinia, in shades of white, pink, purple, and red. The background shows a wooden fence and a garden.

If you’re more into soft touches, why not invest in a macrame frame to hang a pot or two around your living spaces? You can also design a support system for pots hanging off your garden wall (or indoor feature wall) using fancy wall brackets to suspend the pots.

Tin cans that have been painted can bring splashes of color and unique functionality.

A DIY project involving upcycling plastic bottles. The bottles are cut and shaped to create a hanging planter. The planter is filled with soil and a small plant. The background shows a garden with greenery and flowers.

With a few smaller plants, you can create a windchime with plant leaves and stems cascading into a spiral of life. You can also decorate plastic bottles by painting them, gluing decorative elements like stones and pebbles to the outside, or wrapping them in fabric with ribbons and lace.

3. Cute Pots and Planters

A great pot or planter is an absolute show-stopping accessory. Something unique that fits your decor and personality will become a talking point in any room.

A DIY hanging planter made from repurposed plumbing pipe. The pipe is painted a rusty brown color and has multiple small holes drilled into it. Several succulent plants, possibly Echeveria or Pachyphytum, are growing in the holes. The planter is suspended from a string and has a rustic, industrial aesthetic.

An alternative themed pottery pot handle or recycled machine part that can be converted into a container. Who knows, but it certainly makes people take another look, which is what cute accessories are all about.

A hanging planter made from a repurposed plumbing pipe. The pipe is painted a rusty brown color and has multiple small holes drilled into it. Several succulent plants, possibly Echeveria or Pachyphytum, are growing in the holes. The planter is suspended from a string and has a rustic, industrial aesthetic.

With DIY only growing in popularity, why not get creative with some leftover PVC pipe from that last plumbing project and make your own tower planter? It’ll add height to your planted theme, and as the plants establish, you’ll have a modern version of a hanging garden.

Two whimsical, cartoon-like planters are hanging from a rope swing. The planters are shaped like people with arms and legs, and they have smiling faces. One planter is filled with a succulent plant, while the other is filled with a trailing plant, possibly a String of Pearls. The background shows a garden setting with trees and greenery.

I love something whimsical, and these swinging planters are gorgeous. If you want to DIY the idea, you can easily create a fun accessory by adding rope legs and a painted face to some regular planters for something artistic.

4. Plant Stands

Buying a stand for your plants can be a costly accessory, and you can go to town if you have the budget, but there are also great alternatives. There are so many options, from using leftover PVC pipe to build your own frame with wooden slats to display your plants to upcycling old wooden ladders to make an oriental-themed stand.

the stand is full of various potted plants, including a Monstera, a Snake Plant, and a Philodendron

With a bit of paint, some amazing plants, and other accessories, a display stand can really up your accessory game.

A collection of potted plants arranged on wooden plant stands. The plants are a variety of colors and sizes, including pink and purple flowering plants, green foliage plants, and succulents. The stands are made of light-colored wood and have multiple shelves. The background shows a doorway and a building.

If you have a few lengths of pine timber lying about, it’s quite easy to assemble your own plant stand; best of all, you can customize it according to the sizes of your plants.

A quirky plant stand shaped like a zebra. The stand has four zebra legs and a circular top, painted in black and white stripes. A small potted plant is placed on top of the stand. The background is a white wall.

Don’t forget to make it cutesy, and you can let your character shine in your choices of plant stand. Side tables are an excellent place to display that unique plant you are so proud of.

5. Plant Shelves

Nothing is more inspiring than having a living library “growing” on your walls. Use shelves to create green screens and lively arrangements against your walls. Collect an assortment of pots and different types of plants to ensure your shelved collection is breathtaking. A shelf is the perfect functional accessory and can be super cute too.

A modern wooden wall shelf with two tiers. The top tier holds a small potted plant with colorful leaves and a pink vase with a few branches. The bottom tier holds a small cactus plant in a white pot. The shelves are attached to the wall with a wooden support structure. The background is a light-colored wall.

I simply love how the long leaves of the top plants cascade over the shelf edge to drape the bottom shelf. This is a stunning use of recycled timber.

Using shelves with greenery is ideal in a small bathroom, and what better way to keep the shelf in place than to balance it on the old set of taps you never removed with your bathroom remodel (or find some at a building waste reclaim center).

A corner shelf made of wooden planks arranged in a geometric pattern. The shelf has multiple tiers, and each tier holds a small potted plant. Some of the plants are under glass domes. The background is a light blue wall.

If you love DIY, make a statement with this wall accessory piece. It’s like building a 3D puzzle with wood remnants. Get cutting and slotting, and don’t forget to add a few shelves into the framework.

6. Plant Labels, Tags, and Stakes

Cute messages, names, and other words of inspiration are a perfect accessory for your indoor and outdoor gardens.

Leaf-shaped Bamboo Plant Tags

Leaf-shaped plant tags are great for festive messages, adding a message to a plant gift, or being creative. They’re made from water-resistant bamboo and come with a natural twine hanging system.

A thick plant stake cut from 8mm bamboo

If you’re stuck for inspiration, you can choose a pre-inspired sign or stake to share a motivational message or encourage someone, such as this “You grow girl” Flora Plant Stake.

Family Modular Trellis Topper

And if you already have an accessory like a bamboo trellis, why not proclaim what matters to you with a modular trellis topper like this one?

Combinations of similar material items, like a bamboo trellis and a plant stake, work well, too, and there are endless combinations to explore.

A little wit (or sarcasm or a prayer) goes a long way, and you can quickly try out some chalk paint stake signs to write a message of your choosing. I particularly like this “please don’t die” one, which is appropriate for those who usually stick to plastic plants.

With hot glue and resin being all the rage, molding your own signs and letting your inner artist shine is easy. Use this method to identify plants, share motivations, or track which plants were given to you by which friends.

A hand is holding a bundle of wooden plant markers. The markers are made from small, thin pieces of wood with the names of different vegetables written on them, including broad beans, kale, parsnip, Brussels sprouts, red cabbage, carrots, garlic, and peas. The background shows a garden with various plants.

Outdoor gardens need not be without signage, and these rustic whittled sign stakes are perfect for accessorizing an herb garden.

7. Plant Terrariums

I simply adore terrariums for my plants. It’s like creating a miniature world inside a glass container on a small scale. You can't go wrong with so many fantastic terrarium designs you can buy or make, and even upcycled ideas like fish bowls and glass teapots.

A glass teapot filled with a miniature garden. The teapot contains small green plants, moss, and pebbles. The plants are overflowing from the spout of the teapot, creating a cascading effect. The background is a blue and white patterned rug.

This glass teapot terrarium is an ideal coffee table display item and an amazing accessory for this delicate creeper.

Even a candy jar can become something wholesome as a growing accessory.

Or go full-scale with an antique-looking fish tank.

A carnivorous plant terrarium is shown in two different angles. The terrarium is a glass container with a lid and contains various carnivorous plants, including a Venus flytrap with bright red traps and a pitcher plant with a long, tubular trap. The terrarium is also home to a variety of other plants, including moss and a small fern. A light is positioned above the terrarium to provide artificial light.

And don’t forget that you can easily display your aquatic plants in a real fish tank, complete with a growth light, too.

A closed terrarium featuring a miniature landscape. The terrarium is a tall, cylindrical glass container with a lid. Inside, there are layers of soil, moss, rocks, and small plants. A fern and a small palm-like plant are clearly visible. The background of the right image shows a porch or patio.

Create a talking point with an oversized glass vase to make a whole diorama inside.

8. Botanical Art

Indoor plants always remind me of the jungle, so why not create your own fantastical jungle with a few clever art objects hidden among the roots, stems, and leaves?

A playful plant stake in the shape of a beaver. The beaver is made of glass and has a brown color with black details. It has big eyes and a wide grin, giving it a friendly appearance. In the left image, the beaver is placed in a potted plant, while in the right image, it is shown alone.

This glass beaver is an ideal example of how to make a botanical garden.

You can have whole collections of ceramic birds flocking among your vining plants and nesting in those cute ferns you love.

9. Water Fountains

Finally, plants and water features go together like peanut butter and jelly. Add a gorgeous water feature to your plant or create your own with a simple water pump and a few containers.

A DIY project to create a self-watering planter. In the left image, a person is planting red petunias in a large white planter. The planter has a hole in the bottom, and a small water reservoir is visible underneath. In the right image, the planter is filled with petunias and a solar-powered fountain is placed in the center. The fountain pumps water up through the planter, providing self-watering for the plants.

The splashes of color thrive in flower form around this solar fountain idea.
