Juicy succulents are among my favorite plants to give and receive as gifts. I have an entire succulent forest on my front porch. Over the years, I’ve also received some unique succulent accessories that are as important to the collection as the actual plants.

Knowing what succulent accessories to add to your collection (or gift to someone special) is vital to keeping healthy and thriving succulents. Here are a few fantastic plant accessories for your succulent collection.

Accessory Alert! My Favorite Succulent Accessories Summary

Each succulent accessory is a unique opportunity to enhance your garden’s appearance. The choice is yours, and it’s a chance to express your style, consider the materials that best complement your home, and cater to the size of your succulents. This personal touch is what makes your succulent collection truly yours.

Some of the best succulent accessories I’ve found include:

  • Bamboo trellises like a Sappling Trellis or Wild Flower Wall Trellis Multipack.
  • Decorating regular planter pots with the Wild Flower Wall Trellis Multipack and fabric that suit your home decor.
  • Reusing containers to create unusual succulent containers.
  • Strings of lights to illuminate the succulents at night.
  • Functional elements like watering cans, plant misters, and mini gardening tools.
  • Invest in quality containers like terrariums where you can play and build your own planted world.

Tell people about your plants with bamboo stakes and name tags.

Reasons for My Accessory Choices

My accessory choices for my succulent garden are not random. They are guided by a practical checklist that helps me select the correct type of accessory for my unique space and needs.

My accessories have to be:

  • Functional: It has to work, even if only on a visual level. Pretty accessories have to contribute to the succulent garden meaningfully, such as tying them to my home decor.
  • Durable: I don’t want to spend money on things that rot or rust, which is why the bamboo trellises are so magical. Their rubber stakes ensure that the trellis will never rot, and bamboo is naturally water-resistant.
  • Affordable: Nobody wants to spend a fortune on accessories. Besides, I may want to change my accessories in six months, and I don’t want to waste money by throwing out expensive trinkets.
  • Helpful: An accessory that helps my succulents to grow and vine and display better is a great choice.

6+ Best Accessories for Thriving Succulents

Create a unique feature with any of the following succulent accessories to make your garden a place of wonder.

Best Vining Succulent Accessory: Bamboo Trellises

Bamboo trellises are some of the best accessories for succulents, which help support the succulent trails and train them to increase the main plant’s height. For example, the Sappling Trellis and Wild Flower Wall Trellis Multipack are perfect for helping your succulents thrive and grow better.

The image shows two different wooden plant markers. On the left, there is a tall, slender marker with a leaf-like design. On the right, there are several smaller, flower-shaped markers. Both types of markers are engraved with the word "Floratrel."

Features

These bamboo trellises feature the following:

  • Rubber-coated stakes to prevent rotting when planted in the potting mix.
  • Can be attached to the wall.
  • Help your vining succulents reach for the sky.
  • Cut from bamboo board, which is biodegradable, environmentally friendly, and naturally water-resistant.
  • Modular expansion slots let the trellises grow with your succulent.

These bamboo trellises are a practical choice and a pretty addition to your succulent garden. They allow light, air, water, and warmth to reach all parts of the succulents, enhancing their health and beauty. The eco-friendly rubber stakes anchor them securely in your planters, making them the best succulent accessory for any gardening enthusiast.

Alternative Plant Trellis Ideas

Don’t limit yourself to the standard use of a bamboo trellis. These trellises are incredibly versatile, and with a bit of creativity, they can transform your succulent garden. I’ve used mine in unique ways that support the plants and add a touch of artistic beauty to the pots they pair with.

Consider these ideas:

  • Tie a few Sappling Trellises together to create a running wall of trellises that work well for an elongated planter pot. As the succulent vines grow, you’ll have a wall of lush vines to create a stunning backdrop.
  • With the Wild Flower Wall Trellis, create a fun mat of interlinked wildflowers and place it under the planter with your succulents.
  • You can tuck each wildflower trellis into a sizable succulent bowl to reinforce fragile succulents and help keep them anchored in strong winds. Use florist’s wire to secure the wildflower bamboo mini trellises in the planter, providing a windshield for delicate succulents.

Join a three-pack of the Ecologist Trellis to create a trellis column to support heavier succulents and train larger succulents in a more upright position.

The image shows three wooden plant markers in different sizes. They are all shaped like bamboo stalks with leaf-like details. The largest marker is on the left, and the smallest is on the right. All three markers are engraved with the word "Floratrel."

Easiest Creative Accessory Ideas: Unusual Mini Pots and Planters

Nobody uses a plain plastic planter for their succulents. And if you really have to, you absolutely need to decorate it, which I did with a couple of the Wildflower Wall Trellises I had lying around.

I transformed a plain plastic planter into a vibrant, decorated one. First, I attached adhesive strips to the planter. Then, I added bamboo trellis cutouts and tied a bright organza cloth around each trellis. The result was a planter that caught the light with its shimmering brilliance, and I could hide the plain plastic until I found the perfect unique planter pot.

Next, head into your kitchen and garage for some unusual planter ideas you probably never even considered:

  • Repurpose a napkin holder by placing two small plastic planters with lush succulents inside. Tie the two pots together to keep them balanced inside the napkin holder.
  • Recycle some food cans, like baked bean cans, and replant your succulents inside, decorating the edge with a bit of lace or ribbon. Let out your creative side by bashing the cans slightly to give them character (like a family of elderly world-worn warriors that can romp on your windowsill). Play around with cans of different shapes and sizes.
  • If your succulent collection is heading for your bedroom window, add a beautiful teddy bear to hug each container, creating a magical scene.
  • Get creative with hanging pots. Why not hang a pair of Wellington boots in your garden? Cut a few holes down the length of the legs, fill with potting mix, and plant a succulent in each hole.
  • Alternatively, hang a few bicycle tires, fill the inside with potting soil, secure it with mesh wire, and plant your succulents inside.
  • Secure a shipping pallet to the side of your garden wall, adding several small planters with succulents to make a stunning wall of succulents. Accessorize with the Wildflower Wall Trellises to help vining succulents create interesting lines.

Remember: Odd numbers work best when placing planters together; three is better than one.

Accessorizing with Light: Unusual Ideas

I love the shape of succulents. And at night, these unusual plants become magical with proper lighting. There are a few ways to accessorize with light:

  • Use a solar spotlight. With a solar spotlight (and you can get tiny ones), you can illuminate your succulents without the cost of electricity. Ensure your succulent and spotlight are in direct sunlight during the day so the solar batteries can charge.

If you have a large enough succulent, you can add one of the fantastic bamboo trellises to this collection, creating a magical shadow behind the succulents.

  • Fool around with fairy lights. For delicate succulents, a string of mini fairy lights gently draped around the base of the plants will create just enough light to illuminate every exquisite detail on the plants at night. Hide the exposed wires with some natural pebbles.

Accessories to Care for Succulents

Another great gifting idea is to find a unique watering can for succulents. It’s a stylish and creative gift, whether the recipient uses the watering can to water their succulents or plants them in it. This watering can makes the perfect succulent accessory and is super functional, too.

The image shows a repurposed watering can filled with various succulent plants. The watering can is painted red with a floral pattern and has a green handle. The succulents are arranged in the can with soil and moss, and there are a few small rocks scattered around the base. The watering can is sitting on a bed of green grass.

If your succulents don’t need quite as much water as a watering can (or you want a more sophisticated look than planting them in a can), you can opt for these stylish glass plant misters to display them with. I think they’d look very elegant with an eco-friendly bamboo trellis as a backdrop.

The image shows three plant mist sprayers. They are all glass bottles with bronze-colored metal tops. The bottles have different colors: green, brown, and clear. They are arranged on a shelf in front of a white tiled wall.

Succulent Growth Accessories

Succulents are easy-to-grow plants, and for the most part, they don’t need much specialized care. Many succulents grow better with neglect than an over-anxious plant parent who overwaters or over-fertilizes.

Growth accessories like a soil mixing tray, cute mini gardening tools, and a potting bench—for the avid gardener—are irresistible.

A crucial accessory for succulents is a grow light. Depending on the species, succulents require several hours of sunlight each day. In cases where indoor spaces fail to meet these needs, a grow light becomes necessary, significantly enhancing the succulent’s light absorption and overall health.

If you don’t like having an ugly big light hanging over your succulent garden, you can always try some creative approaches. Hide the lights in upside-down pots with other trailing plants to cover any electrical cords.

A cabinet to hide the lights in a recess is another terrific way to enjoy the benefits of a growth light without the eyesore that comes from electrical equipment.

The image shows a room with various plants growing under a Spider Farmer SF600 LED grow light. The light is mounted on the ceiling and illuminates several potted plants, including pepper plants and a palm tree. There are also some smaller seedlings in pots on a tray. The overall appearance of the room is bright and well-lit, ideal for indoor plant growth.

Unique Succulent Environment Accessories

Succulents thrive in terrariums, and with so many amazing terrarium designs available, you can create a magical world with your favorite succulents. I love the diversity you can achieve with terrariums, decorative pebbles, and unique succulents.

Even a fish bowl can be upcycled into a stunning terrarium for succulents, and you can accessorize with colored stones, crystals, and feature items.

The image shows a glass fishbowl terrarium filled with various plants. The terrarium has a round shape and is open at the top. Inside, there are several different types of plants, including ferns, a bromeliad, and a succulent. The plants are arranged around a piece of driftwood and are surrounded by pebbles and moss. The overall effect is lush and tropical.

And let’s not forget the importance of identifying the plants in your succulent garden or series of indoor pots. Using bamboo stakes, like the Flora Plant Stake, you can record their scientific names (or pet names—coz why not?), and the rubber coating on the stakes helps prevent rot.

The image shows a wooden plant marker shaped like a hammer. The marker is made of light-colored wood and has a dark brown handle. The head of the hammer is hollow and has a design with several straight lines intersecting. The marker appears to be quite sturdy and durable.

If you’d prefer a different approach, such as adding a name tag to a string around your favorite pot, then I know you’ll love the Floratrel Plant Tags, available in round, hexagonal, and leaf-shaped sets.

The image shows six circular wooden discs with a hole in the center. The discs are made of light-colored wood and have a dark brown border. There is also a spool of twine included in the image. The discs appear to be blank and could be used for various purposes, such as making tags, labels, or ornaments.

While on the topic of tags, why not add a lovely statement topper to your modular succulent trellises? Choose from a range of statement words like “family,” “thrive,” and “grow.” You can also opt for a seasonal piece, like the Christmas Modular Topper.

Final Accessory Thoughts

How can I make my succulent accessories match my home decor?

When choosing accessories for indoor succulents, consider your overall theme and decor. If your home is sleek and high-tech, a watering can planter with succulents won’t work. Stay in step by using similar materials and finishes, and go for fewer focal points instead of trying too hard to create an accessory feature that may fail.

Accessorizing your indoor or outdoor succulent plants is more than just a fashion statement. It’s a way to express your unique style, enhance your green space, and even have fun collecting unique objects that can serve a new purpose in your garden.

Adding accessories:

  • Lets you add your personality to your beloved plants.
  • Complements your green-fingers efforts with style and character.
  • Expands your home decor to your plants.
  • Is a fun way to collect unique objects that can become functional in a new way.
  • Provides a decorative way to train succulents to grow in specific ways and also helps keep your succulents healthy.

Surprisingly, the best succulent accessory is also one of the most budget-friendly ones, as bamboo and wall trellises are both inspiring and affordable. The cost of an accessory will depend on the materials and technology involved in creating it.

The best succulent accessory depends on the type of succulent, the display look you’re going for, and whether it’s practical or ornamental. Choose an accessory such as a bamboo trellis, indoor growing light, plant mister, or terrarium to brighten your succulent garden and create something unique.

I love playing with new accessories for my indoor and outdoor succulents. Whether adding a classic bamboo trellis or arranging fairy lights to brighten beautiful fleshy leaves at night, my succulent accessories speak about my character and the spaces where I place my plants.

Not sure what accessories work best for your succulents?

Why not look at natural bamboo trellises and bundles from Floratrel to add something special to your succulents or plant gifts that you share with someone close to your heart?
